As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the way information is created and shared, new questions are emerging about evidence, misinformation and trust. For dispute resolution professionals, these are no longer theoretical issues. They are becoming part of everyday practice. 

Drawing on examples from around the world, he'll explore the opportunities and challenges artificial intelligence presents for dispute resolution, from misinformation and synthetic evidence to the practical realities of determining the truth. He'll also offer a glimpse of some of the conversations that will continue throughout the day, inviting delegates to think differently about the future of dispute resolution. 

In Innovation, Process Design and Modern Dispute Resolution, our panel will explore how thoughtful process design can lead to better outcomes, more efficient proceedings and greater confidence in dispute resolution. 

 Moderated by Kate Wiseman, this conversation brings together Professor Nadja Alexander, Dr Anna Kirk and Henry Moore to examine emerging approaches from both Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. 

AI is changing the way disputes are resolved. What does that mean for the professionals responsible for resolving them? How do we preserve trust when AI informs professional judgment? Where do ethical responsibilities begin and end? What standards should govern the use of AI in dispute resolution? And how do we ensure transparency, fairness and accountability?

These are the questions we'll explore in AI, Trust and Decision-Making in Dispute Resolution: Ethics and Governance in an Automated Age, one of the sessions at the 2026 AMINZ Conference.

Moderated by Tyson Hullena, the discussion brings together John Walton, Deborah Manning and Greg Simms to examine how AI is reshaping dispute resolution practice and what that means for mediators, arbitrators, adjudicators and other dispute resolution professionals.

Join Dr Grant Morris for a conversation to mark the launch of his latest book, exploring bold ideas that challenge conventional thinking and inspire fresh perspectives on law and dispute resolution.

1:30pm | Young AMINZ Networking at AMINZ Conference 2026 

Join our Young AMINZ co-chairs as they host a networking session for you to connect with and grow your network of fellow practitioners in our early years of practice. 

In a thought-provoking debate, Hon David Goddard KC and David Bigio KC will examine differing perspectives on the future of civil adjudication. Drawing on recent developments in civil justice and broader trends in dispute resolution, the discussion will consider issues including access to justice, procedural reform, proportionality, and the evolving relationship between the courts and alternative dispute resolution.

Moderated by Nicole Smith, with commentary from Oscar Read, this session promises informed discussion, diverse perspectives and valuable insights into an important conversation for the legal and dispute resolution professions.

Commercial disputes rarely arise because of a single decision. They are often shaped by financial pressures, commercial realities, cultural differences and legal complexity. Understanding those influences is becoming just as important as understanding the dispute itself.

This session explores how dispute resolution professionals can better understand the broader commercial environment in which cross-border disputes arise. 

Moderated by Emmolina May, the discussion brings together Catherine Green, Kelvin Sim and Anna-May Isbey, offering perspectives from dispute resolution, international finance and international business. 

We'll conclude the day with closing reflections from AMINZ Executive Director, Monique Pearson.
